Dentures

Dentures Narre Warren

Dentures, also known as false teeth, are removable replacements for missing teeth and surrounding tissues.

Uses of Dentures

Dentures act as replacement teeth, making it comfortable for you to continue with your daily activities without worrying about your smile. Dentures look natural and feel natural.

Chewing

Dentures improve the chewing ability of their wearer.

Aesthetics

Tooth loss can change your facial appearance. It can allow the skin on your face to sag, making you appear old. Dentures also provide support for the lips and cheeks.

Pronunciation

Dentures can bring an obvious improvement in pronunciation. Replacing missing teeth with dentures enables wearers to speak better.

Self-esteem

Dentures help people by giving improved looks and speech, boosting confidence in the ability to interact socially.

Types of Dentures

There are two types of dentures – complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are worn when all the teeth are missing. On the other hand, partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain.

#1 Complete Dentures

Complete dentures can be either “conventional” or “immediate”. A conventional denture is ready for placing in the mouth about 2 to 3 months after the teeth have been removed.

Unlike conventional dentures, immediate dentures are made beforehand and can be placed as soon as the teeth are extracted. As a result, the wearer does not have to be without teeth during the recovery period.

#2 Partial Dentures

Removable partial dentures or bridges usually consist of replacement teeth attached to a pink or gum-coloured plastic base, which is connected by metal support that holds the denture in place. Partial dentures are worn when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw.

How Dentures are Manufactured

The process of making dentures usually takes a few weeks and several appointments.

Once your Deer Park dentist determines what type of appliance is best for you, the general steps are to:

  • Make impressions of your jaw and take measurements of how your jaws relate to one another and how much space is between them.
  • Create 3D models, wax forms, and/or plastic patterns in the exact shape and position of the denture. You will try this model several times, and the denture will be assessed for colour, shape, and fit before the final denture is formed.
  • Cast a final denture.
  • Adjustments will be made as necessary.

Your Deer Park dentist will instruct you as to how long to wear dentures and when to remove them. During the first few days after receiving your denture, you may be asked to wear it all the time, even during sleep.

Although this may be uncomfortable, it is the fastest way to identify the areas on the denture that may need adjustment. Once adjustments are completed, you should remove dentures before sleeping.

This allows gum tissues to breathe and allows normal blood stimulation and cleansing by the tongue and saliva. The denture can be put back in the mouth during the day.
