14 Aug 9 Ways Dentistry Can Improve Your Smile and Confidence
Many people are not completely happy with their facial appearance, and they sometimes look for help from a dentist.
At Deer Park Dental Surgery, our skilled team provides general and aesthetic dentistry to improve your smile and confidence.
By enhancing the look of your smile, we can also help you raise your confidence and self-esteem. These improvements can have a variety of positive impacts across your life.
Our focus is your smile, as a smile you are not confident in can cause you to hide your smile in public or perhaps even refrain from smiling.
Our skilled team offers treatments to address issues you might have with your smile.
After treatment, many patients tell us their self-esteem is improved, which also improves a range of interactions in their personal and professional lives.
How is the appearance of your teeth and your confidence related?
A 2015 study demonstrates a connection between “bad teeth” and perceived levels of success.
Seventy-eight per cent of those surveyed saw adults with crooked teeth as unsuccessful.
But the effect of your smile goes beyond that. Bad teeth can adversely impact a person’s social life.
This same 2015 study shows that 36 per cent of respondents believed their social life would be better if their smiles were improved.
The study also discovered that 48 per cent of those surveyed had untagged a Facebook picture of themselves because they were unhappy with their smile.
A study in the Journal of Community Health Nursing revealed that 53 per cent of participants demonstrated low self-esteem, with 67 per cent of those participants having minor dental problems, and 33 per cent having major dental issues.
9 ways to improve your smile
At-home whitening. This allows you to whiten your teeth in the comfort of your old home.
Your Deer Park dentist takes a mould of your teeth, and a dental laboratory constructs a personalised whitening tray.
After 1-2 weeks of use, you usually achieve your desired tooth shade, though notably darker teeth may take longer.
The effects are not permanent, so to keep teeth white, you repeat the process every 12 – 18 months.
In-office whitening. This whitening is performed in our office, and only one visit can make your teeth up to 8 shades lighter.
Dental bonding. Bonding is used to improve the appearance of a discoloured or chipped tooth, close spaces between teeth, make teeth look longer, and change the colour or shape of teeth.
Bonding attaches a resin, tooth-coloured material to your tooth. Bonding is among the most straightforward and most economical cosmetic dental procedures.
The material used is shaped and polished to match your teeth.
Dental braces. Orthodontic dentistry optimises the position of a patient’s teeth and their jaw alignment.
This not only creates a more functional set of teeth but improves and regularises your smile.
Deer Park Dental Surgery offers both fixed and removable (Invisalign®) braces for your convenience.
Invisalign®. Invisalign® is an increasingly popular orthodontic treatment that can have multiple advantages over traditional braces.
Invisalign® uses a series of clear polyurethane, or virtually invisible aligners custom-made for each patient.
The near-invisibility of Invisalign aligners means that you have increased confidence both during and after your treatment.
Invisalign® can treat:
- Wide spaces/ gaps between teeth
- Crowded teeth
- Crossbite
- Underbite
- Overbite/Overjet
Crowns. Crowns cover teeth that are discoloured, poorly shaped, or that have undergone root canal treatment.
A crown improves your tooth appearance while at the same time, making damaged teeth stronger.
Crowns can also be used as anchors for bridges, which complete your smile, keep nearby teeth from shifting, improve your ability to eat, and make speaking easier.
Porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers, or dental veneers, are ceramic sheets as thin as contact lenses.
Veneers are bonded to the front surface of the teeth to improve their appearance. Veneers can allow teeth to appear properly aligned and straightened without braces.
Porcelain veneers can also cover cosmetically damaged areas of teeth and improve your teeth’s overall appearance.
Their characteristics and colour give your teeth an attractive pearly white, translucent sheen resulting in a natural-looking and radiant smile.
Dental implants. Surgically implanted in the jaw, implants are a secure anchor for replacement teeth and are a long-term option for smile restoration.
White fillings. White fillings (also called composite fillings) are a preventive, restorative, and cosmetic treatment.
Cosmetically, they are used to replace amalgam or gold fillings, which don’t match the natural colour of teeth.
They function and look like a part of the tooth surface and are designed to last for a long time.
